Karen
Woodward is a mixed media artist specializing in the creation of flameworked
glass sculpture. Karen works at her own professional studio in St. Louis
and at the Craft Alliance Education Center, where she is Chair of the
Glass Department. Karen teaches all levels of torched worked glass to
both children and adults. She has also instructed many other studio craft
courses including foundry casting for bronze, centrifugal casting for
jewelry, and glass fusing.
Karen received her BA in Art History from the University of Texas in Austin
and her MFA in sculpture from Washington University. In 2004 Karen was
selected to study at the Pilchuck Glass School and the Corning Museum
of Glass in New York. Her work has been featured in the New Glass Review
25 published by the Corning Museum of Glass, the Urban Glass Art Quarterly,
and the Passing the Flame book series. In 2004, Karen received a public
art grant to create a neon and glass installation for the City of St.
Louis, which was part of an urban revitalization project on the Delmar
Loop in University City. This work was featured in the Urban Glass Art
Quarterly.
Karen was born in New York, raised in Texas, and lives and works in St.
Louis, Missouri. When she is not in the studio or participating in art
related activities, she she enjoys spending time with her sweet husband
Dr. Crankenstein, Baby Jackie the Nutty Buddy, Joey the Jo-Jo Shabbadoo,
Andy Bird, and Peppercorn the parrot.
